This also means more FOTDs for you all! (I know I'm a blogger slacker! Please don't hate me!) I finally have a chance to wear more makeup than I have been...since my days mostly consist of cleaning house and doing laundry, etc. I don't know about you all but I can't always wear a full face of makeup while doing these things. Hehe!

Keeping up my hair color....

Hey girls,

As you most of you know, I recently took a crazy route to get my dark brown/black hair blonde. Click here to see that post. Well when it was time to touch up my roots, I had no clue what I was going to do. I was unsure of how I would be able to match my roots to my current color without the color looking uneven or looking a MESS. So after much thought, I just said...what the heck! I'm just going to bleach my entire head and start over. Here's what I did...

I used Loreal's Quick Blue bleaching powder and a 20 volume developer (both pictured above)...mixing the products according to the instructions. I, first, applied bleach to ALL of my roots since it was the darkest, then applied it to the rest of my hair. I left the bleach in for about 45 minutes which brought my hair to a pale yellow color and then shampooed with my everyday shampoo.

Next I applied a deep conditioner...the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle. This stuff is AMAZING and my hair really responds well to it. I left it on for about 15 minutes then rinsed and towel dried.

While my hair was still damp, I applied a protein filler (purchased at Sally Beauty Supply for about $3) to my entire hair. What this does is repair the previously damaged protein bonds in the hair ensuring for a more even hair coloring. I let the product sit in my hair for 20 minutes (do not rinse out) and went directly into coloring.

For hair color, I used Ion Color Brilliance Permanent Creme Hair Color in 6A Dark Ash Blonde and a 20 Volume developer mixing according to instructions. I left the color in my hair for the appropriate amount of time then rinsed. After this step, I did another deep conditioning...leaving it in for 15 minutes...then rinsed, towel dried, blow dried and styled. Done!

I'm in LOVE with my hair color. Although it's pretty similar to my previous color, the difference is the ash tones in my current hair color are cooler and stronger (if that makes sense). Which I think is great because it doesn't fade as fast. It's been two weeks since I've redone my color and the ash tone has only faded slightly. With my previous color, the ash tones (from the toner) faded tremendously after one wash leaving my hair looking brassy.

So in a few weeks when another root touch up is needed, this will be the routine that I will be following...excluding bleaching my entire hair (roots only, of course). If any of you would like to see a tutorial on this, let me know. I'll be more than happy to do so. Thanks for reading!

*Note: I am not a professional...obviously...haha. This is what has worked for me so if you choose to follow these steps or use these products, do so at your own risk.
